On 8 April 2019, the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan in UN Office at Geneva organised a briefing on the first Caspian Economic Forum, which will be held in Turkmenistan on 12 August 2019, at the the building of the United Nations Geneva Office.

Ambassadors, Permanent Representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Russian Federation, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, as well as Ambassadors and representatives from other countries took part in the briefing, which was held in the Turkmen Room (Room I).

The heads of the Switzerland-CIS Joint Chamber of Commerce / Georgia (JCC), which is the leading private sector organization in Switzerland, and promotes bilateral business between Switzerland and the CIS, including with the countries of the Caspian Sea also attended the briefing.

Opening the briefing, after the video clip on the economic potentials of the National Tourist Zone “Avaza”, where the Forum will be held in August of this year, the Ambassador, the Permanent Representative Mr. A. Haljanov thanked all the participants of the briefing, introduced the CEF, implemented with the Concept of the Forum. It was noted that the First Forum of this scale within the largest region in the world, such as the Caspian Basin, was initiated by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during the IV Summit of the Heads of the Caspian States, held in Astrakhan, Russian Federation, on September 30, 2014.

In their speeches, Ambassadors, Permanent Representatives of the Caspian countries noted the importance of holding such a Forum, familiarized themselves with economic projects carried out in their countries in the field of transport, logistics, energy, aviation, and sea transportation, which would ultimately contribute to the strengthening and expansion of economic relations between countries.

The participants particularly noted the signing of such an important international legal document as the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea of 12 August 2018, as one of the preliminary strategic events in the modern history of relations between the Caspian states.

Summing up the briefing, the Ambassador, the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan, expressed special thanks to the representatives of international organizations, whose leaders were also invited to participate in the Forum in August of this year.
