Delegation of Turkmenistan participated in the 75th session of the Executive Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
On October 14, 2024, the delegation of Turkmenistan participated in the 75th session of the Executive Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Geneva. In his opening speech, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi highly praised the efforts of Turkmenistan's leadership in eradicating statelessness.
During the first panel session, the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN in Geneva, Vepa Hajiev, noted that, thanks to the initiatives of the National Leader of the Turkmen people and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the campaign to completely eradicate statelessness in the country was successfully completed on September 24, 2024. This was made possible through political will and cooperation with the United Nations.
Chairman of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan, Amanmukhammet Sazakov, who spoke during the high-level segment, added that more than 32,000 people have been granted Turkmen citizenship, and more than 5,000 have received residence permits.
These achievements demonstrate Turkmenistan's commitment to human rights protection and fulfillment of international obligations.
