WORKING MEETING TO PREPARE A NATIONAL REPORT TO THE COMMITTEE ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD

On May 26, 2020, a working meeting on the preparation of a national report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child began its work in a video conference format in the UN building in Ashgabat.

The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the UNICEF expert online, members of the Working Group of the Interdepartmental Commission to ensure compliance with Turkmenistan's international obligations in the field of human rights and international humanitarian law.

At the beginning of the meeting, participants noted that Turkmenistan, as a party to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, consistently implemented the norms contained in the Convention into national legislation. An exchange of views on the structure of the national report took place. The results of the work carried out to implement international obligations in the field of children's rights, the development of draft national programs and action plans were summed up.

Noting the importance of Turkmenistan’s cooperation with the UN, the meeting participants also discussed the work on the fulfillment of the “National Action Plan on the implementation of the rights of children in Turkmenistan for 2018-2022”, the upcoming activities on the implementation of the “National Strategy for the Early Development of the Child in Turkmenistan for 2020-2025” and other documents.
