Today, 8 December, the 116th Session of the Council of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) opened in Geneva. The session addresses key issues of international migration, including the nexus between migration and development, the Organization’s strategic directions, and statements delivered by Member States.
The delegation of Turkmenistan, headed by the Deputy Chairman of the State Migration Service, Dovran Bayramov, is participating in the work of the session.
In his statement, Mr. Bayramov outlined Turkmenistan’s position on core areas of migration policy, emphasizing the need for coordinated international cooperation and a comprehensive approach to managing migration processes. He underscored the importance of integrating global framework documents — including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Global Compacts on Migration and on Refugees — into national development strategies. Turkmenistan also presented its efforts to modernize the national migration system, streamline legal migration channels, improve entry and exit procedures, and ensure equal social and labour rights for migrants.
