On 18 November, the delegation of Turkmenistan, led by the Chairwoman of the National Centre of Trade Unions, Oguljennet Berdiliyeva, held a series of bilateral meetings with representatives of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva.

In particular, meetings were held with Beata Andres, Assistant Director-General and ILO Regional Director; with Oliver Röpke, the new Director of the ILO Bureau for Workers’ Activities; as well as with Corinne Vargha, Director of the ILO International Labour Standards Department, among others. The parties discussed the development of cooperation, the implementation of the Joint Action Plan, and further steps to advance decent work, social dialogue, and the modernization of labour legislation.

It was specifically noted that Turkmenistan became the first country received by Oliver Röpke after he assumed office, which was viewed as an important sign of trust and recognition of the country’s active position on labour-related issues.

Technical experts of the ILO held consultations with the members of the delegation on matters related to the ratification and practical implementation of international labour standards.

ILO representatives highly commended Turkmenistan’s efforts to strengthen the system of labour rights protection, combat forced and child labour, and ensure safe working conditions.

Both sides expressed readiness to continue their joint work.
