International Conference in Geneva Dedicated to the 30th Anniversary of the Recognition of Turkmenistan’s Neutrality

On 5 June 2025, an international event titled “The International Dimension of Neutrality” was held in Geneva, jointly organized by the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the United Nations Office at Geneva and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP).

The event was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the international recognition of Turkmenistan’s status of permanent neutrality and attracted wide interest from the international community. The conference gathered more than 300 participants, including heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of international organizations, the media, academic and cultural circles, youth, and NGOs.

The welcoming address was delivered by Ambassador Thomas Greminger, Executive Director of the GCSP. Key speeches were presented by H.E. Mr. Vepa Hajiyev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan, and Mr. Shiri Shiriyev, Director of the Institute of Strategic Studies under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. They emphasized the relevance of neutrality in the context of current geopolitical challenges and highlighted Turkmenistan’s practical experience in this domain.

The event also featured several bilateral meetings, including negotiations between the Turkmen delegation and Ambassador Greminger, where the role of neutrality as an important tool for sustainable peace and international dialogue was underlined.

The panel discussion included the participation of the Permanent Representatives of Costa Rica, the United Arab Emirates, and India, as well as the President of the Geneva Centre for Neutrality.
