Meeting at the UN Office in Geneva Focuses on Peace, Trust, and Dialogue
On January 28, 2025, a meeting was held at the United Nations Office in Geneva with the heads of the diplomatic corps and international organizations based in Geneva. The event was organized by Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the UN Office in Geneva. The Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva, Vepa Hajiev, participated in the meeting.
The event also gathered representatives of public and non-governmental organizations, the media, and the academic community.
In her speech, Tatiana Valovaya briefly outlined the prospects for further cooperation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and dialogue in the face of modern global challenges. She highlighted the significance of collective efforts in strengthening trust among states and underscored the role of multilateral diplomacy in achieving these goals.
David Fernandez Puyana, Permanent Observer of the University for Peace (UPEACE) to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, was the next to speak. He addressed the importance of peace, trust, and dialogue, particularly in these challenging times. In this context, he specifically recognized Turkmenistan’s contribution to upholding these values.
Mr. Puyana also recalled that, following Turkmenistan’s initiative, the UN General Assembly had declared 2025 the "Year of Peace and Trust," emphasizing the significance of this initiative for the international community.
In his address, the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Office in Geneva, Vepa Hajiev, highlighted the relevance of the themes of peace and trust. He provided insights into Turkmenistan’s ongoing efforts in this direction and stressed the symbolic significance of 2025, when the country will celebrate the 30th anniversary of its status of Permanent Neutrality, a principle reaffirmed multiple times by UN General Assembly resolutions.
Ambassador Hajiev further noted that Turkmenistan’s neutrality serves as a fundamental basis for promoting dialogue, strengthening international cooperation, and ensuring sustainable peace.
The meeting served as an important platform for discussing prospects for cooperation, exchanging views, and reinforcing dialogue between states and international organizations. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to collective efforts in maintaining peace, trust, and stability at the global level.
