PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF TURKMENISTAN MEETS WITH THE SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE IPU
On 25 February 2026, a meeting was held in Geneva between the Ambassador of Turkmenistan and the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
During the meeting, the Turkmen side reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness to host the 16th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament of the IPU and formally transmitted the letters of the Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan addressed to the IPU leadership. The Summit is considered as one of the key components of the International Year of Law, initiated by the President of Turkmenistan at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, contributing to the advancement of the international legal agenda.
The Secretary General of the IPU welcomed the initiative with appreciation and expressed support for Turkmenistan’s intention to host the upcoming Summit. It was emphasized that the initiative to proclaim the International Year of Law is timely and responds to contemporary global needs for strengthening the rule of law, institutional resilience and inclusive development.
It was noted that Turkmenistan’s consistent engagement in the international arena, including in the parliamentary dimension, contributes to the promotion of a constructive cooperation agenda and the strengthening of inter-parliamentary dialogue. In this context, the active role of the countries of Central Asia in advancing inter-parliamentary ties in recent years was also highlighted.
Particular attention was paid to the complementarity of initiatives put forward by the states of the region, which adds further substantive depth to the emerging international legal agenda.
The parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening cooperation and continuing constructive interaction in preparation for the forthcoming Summit.
