Meeting Between the Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and India in New Delhi

On 5 June 2025, a meeting took place in New Delhi between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, and the Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

The two sides discussed the current state and future prospects of bilateral cooperation in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

Particular attention was given to the exchange of high-level visits and contacts, which contribute to the strengthening of constructive political dialogue. The importance of closer inter-ministerial cooperation between the foreign ministrieswas also highlighted as a key dimension of political engagement.

The ministers noted the effective partnership between Turkmenistan and India at both regional and international levels, especially within the framework of respected international organizations.

The parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in deepening trade and economic cooperation, improving the bilateral legal framework, and enhancing the role of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation as a key coordinating mechanism for bilateral engagement.

Among the promising areas of cooperation, the sides identified information technologies, transport and logistics, textile, chemical, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical industries. The implementation of the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAPI) gas pipeline project was once again underscored as a strategic initiative.

Cultural and humanitarian cooperation, especially in the fields of science and education, was emphasized as a vital component of the bilateral partnership, contributing to mutual understanding between the peoples.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both ministers expressed confidence in the continued strengthening of Turkmen–Indian cooperation.
