Meeting between the President of Turkmenistan and the UN Secretary-General

On October 24, 2024, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres during the XVI BRICS Summit in Kazan, under the “BRICS Plus/Outreach” format. They discussed enhancing cooperation aligned with global objectives and Turkmenistan’s ongoing commitment to neutrality, including its role in establishing 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust by UN General Assembly resolution.

President Berdimuhamedov congratulated Mr. Guterres on United Nations Day, expressing hope that their talks would reinforce the traditional partnership. The Secretary-General extended his thanks, recalling his July visit to Ashgabat and expressing appreciation for Turkmenistan's initiatives supporting peace, security, and sustainable development.

The dialogue centered on Turkmenistan’s proactive approach to shared global priorities and cooperation with UN agencies. Both leaders agreed on the importance of long-term, respectful collaboration to address current global issues and advance the UN’s Millennium Development Goals.
