Meeting with the Secretary-General of the International Social Security Association (ISSA)

On October 25, 2024, the Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Vepa Hadjiyev, met with the Secretary-General of the International Social Security Association (ISSA), Marcelo Abi-Ramia Caetano. The main topic of discussion was the prospects for developing and strengthening cooperation in the areas of social protection and social security.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on key social security challenges in contemporary conditions, focusing on global issues related to ensuring sustainable and comprehensive social support for citizens.

Marcelo Abi-Ramia Caetano highlighted that Turkmenistan’s experience, which actively develops its own programs for social support and citizen protection, could serve as a useful example for other countries. The Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan, in turn, emphasized the importance of cooperation with ISSA, which enables countries to exchange advanced experiences and apply best international practices in social policy.

The discussion also covered global cooperation, including information sharing and the development of joint strategies to enhance the resilience of social systems. In light of global economic fluctuations and growing social challenges, such collaboration helps strengthen social security and contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including combating poverty and inequality.

The outcomes of the meeting confirmed the mutual interest of both parties in developing a partnership aimed at improving social protection for citizens, ensuring their rights, and enhancing social justice.
