NOVRUZ CELEBRATED AT GENEVA

On 21 March 2019, the World Intellectual Property Organization hosted the celebration of the International Day of Novruz, celebrated annually in accordance with the resolution of the UN General Assembly A/RES/64/253 of 23 February 2010.

The evening was organized by the Permanent Missions of the countries celebrating Novruz. At the opening ceremony of the evening, it was noted that Novruz, the day of the spring equinox, is celebrated as the beginning of a new year and is celebrated for more than 3000 years in the Balkans, the Middle East, the Caucasus, in Central Asia, in the Black Sea.

This event, dedicated to Novruz, as noted, has become another evidence of the practical implementation of the United Nations General Assembly Resolution on the preservation and development of culture and traditions associated with Novruz; and a contribution to efforts to raise awareness of Novruz.

The organizers expressed special gratitude to the leadership of the World Intellectual Property Organization for their contribution and assistance in organizing the event of Novruz, which was included in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization Culture (UNESCO), in December 2016, on behalf of Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, India, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan Thane and Turkey, thus emphasizing the involvement of international organizations.

The evening continued with performances by cultural figures of countries, including from Turkmenistan, who sang Turkmen folk songs, which aroused a sincere interest among the participants of the celebration, including leaders and representatives of international organizations in Geneva, and invited guests from Turkmenistan.

The celebration ended with a reception at which dishes of national cuisine from all countries celebrating Novruz were presented.
